A tragic blast in Karachi‘s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area claimed the lives of two individuals and left two others injured, including a child.

The explosion, believed to be caused by a grenade, resulted in the summoning of the Bomb Disposal Squad and cordoning off the area.

Deputy Inspector General Azfar Mahesar revealed that the blast was accidental. Despite police investigations, the blast’s exact nature remains unknown, with no party claiming responsibility.

This incident is part of a series of violent events preceding the general elections, raising security concerns nationwide.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Syed Irfan Ali Bahadur, the death toll from the explosion has risen to two.

Tragically, the child injured in the blast succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.

SSP Bahadur further revealed that the explosion was caused by a hand grenade thrown by a 17-year-old youth, who was a resident of the same area. The motive behind the grenade attack and its intended target are still being investigated.

In response to the incident, authorities have detained the youth’s brother as part of the ongoing investigation.

Additionally, the police have conducted a search of the youth’s residence to gather more evidence.

The deceased child is reported to be the son of a police officer, adding complexity to the investigation. SSP Bahadur emphasized that thorough investigations are underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
