Recognizing the gravity of this issue, the German non-profit WASH first launched MHDay ten years ago.

Their vision? A world free from period stigma, where women can manage their periods with safety, hygiene, and confidence. Each year, the campaign adopts a unique theme to amplify its message. In 2024, the official theme resonated deeply: “Together for a Period-Friendly World.”

Embrace Pakistan: Championing Open Conversation

In Pakistan, the fight toward menstrual health and hygiene found a strong voice in Embrace Pakistan.

This organization took ownership of MHDay and embarked on a critical mission: dismantling period stigma and paving the way for a more period-friendly society.

“Good Girls Will Ask Questions”: A Digital Campaign with Impact

Embrace Pakistan recognized the crucial role of open dialogue in shattering the silence. Their digital campaign, aptly titled “Good Girls Will Ask Questions,” challenged societal expectations.

It aimed to deconstruct the notion of the “good girl” who remains silent. Instead, the campaign empowered girls to ask questions and speak up about their menstrual health – a right often denied due to cultural taboos.

Influencers as Champions of Change

The campaign took flight with the collaboration of five prominent Instagram influencers. Embrace Pakistan sent them questions about menstruation, prompting them to engage in open conversations with their audiences about periods.

Further empowering the movement, Embrace brought a collaborating gynecologist on board to answer the questions posed by the influencers and their audience.

By creating a safe online space, free from societal judgment, Embrace Pakistan fostered bold and necessary conversations. Their efforts represent a significant stride towards building a world where menstruation is no longer a source of shame, but a natural part of life managed with dignity and understanding.
