Islamabad Express Metro Bus Now Closed Permanently due to unsustainability.

Fast commutes take a backseat! The cherished Islamabad-Rawalpindi express metro bus service, beloved for shaving off 20 minutes of travel time, has hit a dead end.

The Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA), citing financial constraints, has pulled the plug on the beloved express service, leaving commuters facing the familiar 50-minute journey once again.
Here’s what happened:
- The express service, a dream for many, operated with just seven stops between Saddar in Rawalpindi and the Pakistan Secretariat in Islamabad. This was in stark contrast to the regular service’s 24 stops, making it a significant time saver.
- Despite a promising initial response, the express service couldn’t quite fill its coffers. Out of PMA’s 68 vehicles, only seven were dedicated to the express route, and the financial numbers just didn’t add up.
- With a heavy heart, the PMA had to make the tough call. All metro buses will now stop at all 24 stations, bringing the express service to a screeching halt.
But wait, there’s more!
- The much-awaited 6th Road bus station, initially planned to open alongside the express service, remains closed. While minor work is nearing completion, its inauguration seems to be stuck in traffic.
- The reason? Apparently, the divisional administration wants to hold a “special function” for the opening, complete with the Caretaker CM Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, in attendance.
- Unfortunately, securing the Chief Minister’s schedule in the garrison city has proven tricky, leaving the new station and eager commuters waiting in the wings.
What this means for you:
- If you were a fan of the express service, prepare to reclaim those lost 20 minutes. The familiar 50-minute journey is back, with all stops included.
- Be patient with the 6th Road bus station. While its opening seems imminent, the wait might be extended due to the planned inauguration ceremony.
Remember, even in the face of setbacks, progress marches on! The regular metro bus service remains operational, and hopefully, the 6th Road station will join the party soon. Until then, buckle up and enjoy the ride, even if it takes a little longer.
