What is eVTOL?

What is eVTOL is a technology undergoing the process of research and development. An eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft) is a kind of aircraft that uses electric power to hover, take off, and land vertically.

It is powered by electric batteries and hovers, flies, and lands like a helicopter. It is usually designed to carry two to six people including a pilot.

In really simple words a helicopter is called a VTOL and eVTOL is an electric helicopter. It is one of the newest technology in the aerospace industry.

An eVTOL aircraft can operate with or without a pilot, an autonomous eVTOL uses cameras, radar, GPS, and infrared scanners. They can take off vertically, and hover in place with the help of propellers.  It can be used for different purposes such as:

  • Agriculture
  • Parcels and Deliveries
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

An eVTOL aircraft is currently in the development and testing stage, and many companies are working on prototypes that are at different stages of flight testing as safety is the main concern.
