Following the expiration of a week-long truce, Israel has resumed its airstrikes on homes and buildings in Gaza, resulting in hundreds of casualties, including prominent Palestinian scientist Sufyan Tayeh and his family.

The demise of Sufyan Tayeh, Rector of the Gaza Islamic University in the Gaza Strip along with his family members was affirmed by the Palestinian Higher Education Ministry in a statement.

Professor Tayeh, a distinguished researcher recognized as a top researcher worldwide, perished in an airstrike in the Al-Faluja area of Jabalia, the statement read.
The university head was a physics and applied mathematics researcher, having authored significant journals throughout his career.

Meanwhile, the death toll from Israeli bombardment on Gaza has surpassed 15,000 since the conflict’s inception in early October.
In response to the renewed airstrikes, Hamas and Palestinian group Islamic Jihad launched “rocket barrages” against multiple Israeli cities and towns, including Tel Aviv.
