LAHORE: Smog alert has been issued for the provincial capital of Lahore as its Air Quality Index touched above 400 on Monday, thereby becoming the world’s most polluted city.

‘According to the data from the Punjab Environment Protection Department the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached to up to 402 today while the overall AQI was 224.

Smog levels in Lahore have began to increase as winter is near, and residents are paining because of this. Most parts of Lahore complain of eye irritation and infections whereas the residents face breathing difficulties.

US Consulate measures AQI at 273 while Gaddafi Stadium’s locality registers 225 AQI and FC College’s locality presents 255 AQI; AQI registered at the maximum of 402 AQI on Ghazi Road.
Lahore’s own temperatures also aren’t letting the city breathe. Minimum may be expected at 21°C and maximum can touch 33°C. The winds were gentle and recorded a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
It is trying to counter the menace of smog with artificial rain. However, they could not finalize any schedule so far for that.

The Ministry of Finance has sanctioned a budget of 350 million rupees ($1.2 million) for the artificial rain project, and, therefore, the departments of environment and meteorology shall be at the center of executing this plan.
