Islamabad: ECP Seeks Army Deployment for General Elections 2024 for ensuring peace at the polling booth.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formally requested the deployment of Pakistan Army personnel both inside and outside polling stations for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024.
The ECP emphasized the need for comprehensive security to enable voters to freely exercise their right to vote.
In a letter to the Interior Ministry, the electoral watchdog sought detailed reports on security arrangements from the ministry and the Islamabad Commissioner by November 27, 2023.
The involvement of the Pakistan Army aims to ensure a secure and transparent electoral process.
“The report should also include the total number of security personnel available from the provinces and a security plan,” sources said while citing the letter.
Highlighting the absence of a sufficient police force, the letter underscored the importance of timely alternative arrangements, including the assistance of the Pakistan Army, for the upcoming general elections.
It emphasized that both the federal and provincial governments are constitutionally obligated to support the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
