Expected start date of Ramadan for 2025

Initial astronomical predictions indicate that the first day of Ramadan in Morocco for 2025 will be on Sunday, March 2.

Astronomical expert Ali Amraoui confirmed that the month of fasting will probably last 29 days, with Eid al-Fitr on March 31, 2025.

Amraoui explained that these predictions are made based on astronomical calculations which calculate the movement of the moon and appearance of the crescent. “These predictions form a part of an accurate method for estimating the beginning of Ramadan,” he said.

Ramadan 2025 Commencement Brings Joy

The Kingdom of Morocco strictly follows a procedure in determining the beginning of lunar months.

This process is visual sighting of the crescent moon with the naked eye, as ordained by Islamic teachings and prophetic hadiths.

Indeed, notwithstanding its perfection for calendrical calculations, the onset date of Ramadan will be as declared by the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs.

The same ministry will declare the beginning once the crescent moon becomes visible after the sighting procedures initiated all over the country through numerous specific committees with the support of Royal Armed Forces.

In line with Decree No. 2.18.855, Morocco will revert to Greenwich Mean Time one week before Ramadan commences, and subsequently, the country will resume GMT+1 immediately after Eid al-Fitr.

These dates are provisional, and the Kingdom awaits the official pronouncement to confirm them.
