Punjab Announces New Housing Scheme for Journalists
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took the landmark step for the journalist community as plots have been announced for 3,200 journalists in Lahore reported on Thursday.

She directed that Ministry of Information may be taken an immediate work of the Journalist Colony Lahore Phase II, and the law procedure, so alloted plots be given early amongst journalists.

Maryam Nawaz, in a meeting, emphasized that journalists and the government are two wheels of the same vehicle, and providing plots to journalists is not a privilege but a right.

She further said plots would be given on merit and according to all the legal formalities.
According to a channel report, the Punjab Ministry of Information has decided to invite applications from journalists beyond those affiliated with the Lahore Press Club, with a formal advertisement expected within two to three days.
First Similar Project was Launched in 2004
The first such scheme was initiated by the Punjab government in Lahore in 2004 under Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. It was near Harbanspura on Canal Road.
