The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is raising the alarm about fake messages circulating on WhatsApp, social media, and SMS, claiming to be from their Device Identification Registration & Blocking System (DIRBS).

These deceiving messages aim to steal your personal information, so stay vigilant!

The Scam:

These messages come in two flavors:

  • “Suspicious Activity” Trap: You receive a supposed official warning that your SIM card is involved in “suspicious activities” and prompts you to check your SIM count via a provided link.
  • “Registration Suspension” Scare: A fake threat claims your phone registration will be suspended unless you visit a provided link.

Don’t Be Fooled!

These links are malicious scams designed to steal your personal information. Don’t click!

Protect Yourself:

  • Never click links from unknown numbers/senders.
  • Report such phone numbers/links for blocking through PTA’s complaint management system.
  • Check your device status only through official channels:
    • Visit the DIRBS website.
    • SMS “IMEIs” to 8484 from your device.
    • Use the official Device Verification App (available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store).
