These changes will affect expeditions across all seasons, offering climbers flexibility based on budget and preferred climbing conditions.

Increased Costs for International Climbers:

International climbers will face a significant hike in permit fees, with the cost varying depending on the chosen season:

  • Summer Season (April-September): The peak climbing season now sees a permit fee of $5,000 per climber. This popular window offers ideal weather conditions for attempting K2’s summit.
  • Autumn Season (October-November): Climbers opting for the autumn months will see a slightly reduced fee of $2,500.
  • Winter Season (December-March): For those daring enough to brave the harsh winter conditions, the fee dips to $1,500.

Group Fees for International Expeditions:

Adding to the changes, international climbing groups will now pay a separate $12,000 group fee specifically for the summer season. This fee applies alongside individual climber permits.

Trekking Fees for Foreign Mountaineers:

The G-B government has also updated trekking fees for foreign visitors. These fees apply to groups and individual climbers undertaking non-summit expeditions in the K2 region:

  • Group Fee: $100 (flat fee across all seasons)
  • Individual Climber Fees:

    • Autumn: $200
    • Winter: $100
