Time is running out for holders of withdrawn National Prize Bonds of Rs. 7,500, Rs. 15,000, Rs. 25,000, and Rs. 40,000, as the final deadline for encashment, conversion, or replacement is set for December 31, 2024.

Government Imposes New Tax on Prize Bonds and Sukuk

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued a reminder that no applications will be entertained after this date. Bondholders can redeem or exchange their bonds at any SBP Banking Services Corporation office or authorized branches of commercial banks nationwide.

📑 Background on Withdrawn Prize Bonds

• The Rs. 40,000, Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 7,500 bearer bonds were officially withdrawn from circulation in June 2019.
• The government extended the deadline multiple times to accommodate bondholders.
• In October 2024, the Finance Department announced December 31, 2024, as the final date for encashment, conversion, or replacement.

🏦 Options for Bondholders:

Bondholders have three options to manage their investments:

1️⃣ Encashment at Face Value: Redeem the bonds for their face value.
2️⃣ Conversion to Premium Prize Bonds: Replace them with registered Premium Prize Bonds.

The State Bank of Pakistan has instructed all commercial banks to accept encashment and conversion requests at all branches until the December 31 deadline.

• The withdrawn prize bonds will become worthless.
