Both Khan and Qureshi received a 10-year prison sentence in the cipher case on January 30 and are currently incarcerated in Adiala jail.
Despite the opportunity, only 1,500 out of 65,000 prisoners across Punjab participated in the voting process.
The Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Prisons, Mian Farooq Nazir, revealed that only 2.3% of prisoners from the province’s 43 jails submitted the necessary paperwork to cast their votes.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had directed the IG to ensure prisoners’ voting rights. However, only a limited number of prisoners managed to fulfill the requirements to vote.
The voting process in prisons was closely monitored by superintendents, who utilized camera surveillance to maintain transparency and prevent any irregularities. Subsequently, the postal ballot papers were forwarded to the ECP.
The final election results will be announced by the ECP after completing the counting process.
