Fire Risk: FORD Recalls almost 125,000 SUVs. Ford Motor Company has recalled a huge number of vehicles of more than 125,000 Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in the US. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that Ford is recalling more than 125,000 Ford Maverick pickups (model years 2022-2023) and Ford Escape (model years 2020-2023), as well as Lincoln Corsair SUVs (model years 2021-2023). These vehicles are equipped with Ford’s 2.5L hybrid or plug-in hybrid engines due to a potential fire risk.

As a precautionary measure, Ford is urging owners to safely park their vehicles and promptly turn off the engine if they hear unexpected engine noises, experience power loss, or notice smoke coming from the engine bay.

This recall of 125,000 pickups and SUVs follows a similar recall last week involving approximately 142,000 Lincoln MKC SUVs. In the case of the Lincoln MKC, the recall was initiated due to fire risks associated with a battery monitor sensor that may short-circuit and overheat, potentially causing a fire in the engine bay.

Lincoln MKC owners have been advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the necessary recall repair is completed.

Ford has been grappling with persistent reliability problems, which have been a significant challenge for the company and its CEO, Jim Farley, who is working on transitioning the company to the electric vehicle era. The high-profile recall of its Lightning EV pickup earlier this year had a negative impact on sales, and Farley has acknowledged that addressing overall quality issues will require several years of effort.
