FAO celebrates World Food Day 2024 advocates for “Right to Foods for a Better Life and Future”
In celebration of World Food Day on Thursday, the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization teamed up with the provincial stakeholders to organize a focused event at its office in Peshawar.

For this year, the theme was “Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future,” at a time when more than 783 million people suffered from hunger, though the world has already been able to produce enough food for everyone.
Hunger is a Major Problem
They are stressing on a holistic and multisectoral approach that views the quest for food systems within a human rights and hunger-based framework through more just policies.
They will thus need policies based on agrifood focused on fair allocation of resources with protective safety nets in favor of the vulnerable populations.
Private sector players were to make food healthy, safe, and available while investing in sustainability for low-income families.
Public awareness was the core content of the activities of the day. Students, FAO staff, and farmers engage in various activities that relate to the food diversity and accessibility concepts for security.
Women and Children at Risk: FAO celebrates World Food Day 2024
Children were not left out through an interactive activity book teaching them balanced diets, nutrition basics.
These learnings are part of foundations in food security concepts in addition to building a long-term appreciation of diverse sustainable diets.
There was an awareness walk led by students and educators to raise awareness about food rights and sustainability.
Banners were displayed with messages regarding food rights and sustainability, highlighting the demands of the public for a more secure and just food system.
Special Feature: FAO celebrates World Food Day 2024
One special feature is the recognition of small-scale farmers through various activities that are organized at Farmer Field Schools where insights are shared about sustainable agriculture and local challenges.
The grassroots knowledge exchange focus of these will help to strengthen the community’s resilience and push toward sustainable practices within the agrifood landscape at a local level.
This year’s FAO World Food Day underscores its commitment to a hunger-free world where every person can live a healthier and more dignified life.
The event this year serves as a precursor to the 80th anniversary of the FAO in 2025, reaffirming the organization’s mission to secure food access for generations to come.
