Islamabad Embraces Cycling Culture: 146 KM of Dedicated Lanes Coming Soon
Islamabad residents can look forward to a greener and more sustainable future with the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) ambitious “Cycling as an Alternative Transport” project.

Key Highlights:
- 146 KM Network: Over 146 kilometers of dedicated bicycle lanes will be constructed across Islamabad, promoting eco-friendly transportation and reducing carbon footprint.
- Phased Development: The project will be implemented in three phases, starting with Jinnah Avenue, Margalla Road, G-7, and G-6 in February-March 2024.
- Phase-Wise Expansion: The remaining 14 sectors and major avenues will receive their dedicated bicycle lanes between May-November 2024.
- Srinagar Highway & Expressway: The final phase, scheduled for December 2024-February 2025, will see the construction of bicycle lanes along the Srinagar Highway and Islamabad Expressway.
- Electric Bike Integration: CDA plans to partner with a private company to offer electric bikes for rent at 72 locations across the city in the final phase.
- Signal-Free Mobility: Electric bikes will operate on separate lanes with a speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour, ensuring smooth and efficient travel.
- Project Cost: The project is estimated to cost Rs. 1.5 billion and will be funded by CDA.
