UAE Lowers Least Age Requirement for Driving License

A new federal decree on traffic regulations has been announced by the UAE government. This decree is to be implemented on 29 March 2025.

Now, the minimum age for driving licenses is decreased from 18 to 17 years.

Ban on excessive noise level emanating from vehicles – such vehicles are strictly banned, and car horn use will be restricted in cities for only safety purposes.

The rules further prohibited pedestrians to cross highways where the speed limit exceeds 80 km/h and violators shall hold liable for all civil and criminal responsibilities.

The police further emphasized “deterrent penalties” against the main violators which might lead to serious accidents: driving under the influence, hit-and-run cases, jaywalking, and driving through flooded valleys.

Transporting hazardous materials or unusual loads now require a permit from the concerned authority.

This amendment focuses on the actions taken to address the gains of other world advances in transportation in light of the rising use of self-driving and electric vehicles.

Such an amendment details aspects of guidelines for inspection, registration, licensing, and renewal processes regarding such vehicles as well as protocols for testing new automotive technologies.
