Toyota Pakistan production
In case you don’t know, Indus Motors is the official manufacturer and distributor of Toyota in Pakistan.
It seemed that Indus Motors was stabilizing after 2 years of instability, but now again because of the ongoing political instability, Indus Motors had to shut down its operations temporarily.
Earlier Suspensions
This is not the first time Toyota has suspended its operations due to supply chain issues. In fact, Toyota has a history of doing so.
Last week, on November 18th, they put the factory under suspension, and their reason for the same move was “ongoing supply chain issues and a severe lack of critical raw materials.”
Before that, they made the same move last month. Last month’s shutdown was scheduled from October 29 to 31, 2024, and it was also because of supply chain disruptions and an acute shortage of critical components.
Toyota claims that most of its production is locally assembled, and about 70% of its car parts are locally made from raw materials.
Being locally manufactured using raw materials, any disruption in the supply chain has a direct and immediate impact.
This makes Toyota one of the first companies to feel the effects of supply chain challenges.
These suspensions reveal deeper problems carmakers have with shortages in raw materials and trying to sustain smooth business activities amid increasingly volatile world markets.
