Shajar Awan Speeds on to World Indoor Athletics Championship: Pakistan’s Sprinter Eyes Glory

Pakistan’s sprinting sensation, Shajar Abbas Awan, gears up for another international challenge!

The 23-year-old is set to blaze the track at the upcoming World Indoor Athletics Championship in Glasgow, Scotland, running the 60-meter event on March 1-3.

Awan’s Stellar Track Record:

This isn’t Awan’s first foray into international competition. Last year, he impressed at the 10th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship in Kazakhstan, securing a phenomenal second place in the 60-meter race with a time of 6.78Q.

Notably, he left behind established athletes like China’s Huang Yi and Tajikistan’s Favoris Muzrapov.

Beyond indoor events, Awan has also made his mark outdoors. In 2022, he etched his name in history by setting a new national record in the 200 meters at the Islamic Solidarity Games. Although he narrowly missed out on the 100-meter finals, his overall performance solidified his position as a rising star in Pakistani athletics.

Eyes on Glasgow and Beyond:

Awan’s participation in the World Indoor Athletics Championship signifies Pakistan’s growing potential in the sprinting scene. His dedication and talent warrant attention, and his performance in Glasgow will be eagerly awaited by his supporters.

Challenges and Hopes for Pakistani Athletes:

However, challenges remain for Pakistani athletes aspiring to participate in international events. The Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) faces hurdles in sending athletes to the upcoming Asian Indoor Athletics Championship in Iran due to delays in obtaining No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from state authorities.

While e-visas from Iran aren’t a concern, the ongoing general elections have shifted the focus of state departments, impacting timely NOC issuance.

Despite these obstacles, the determination of athletes like Awan and the efforts of the AFP are paving the way for a brighter future of Pakistani athletics on the global stage.
