Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Challenges Corolla and Civic
The Elantra is an actual Hybrid. These specs provide impressive results in power, torque, horsepower, and mainly combined fuel average ratio, making the Elantra top-of-the-line compared to competitors like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic RS Turbo.
The car is powered with a 6-speed DCT transmission, which delivers smooth performance, but it does not possess pedal shifters.
The same thing can be achieved as if you were to use gear knob in manual mode while merely pushing it a bit to the right.
A performance of 0-100km/h in 8.7 seconds is possible; real time may vary depending on conditions such as road and fuel.
- Fuel Economy & Range
- City Fuel Economy: 33.1 km/L in EV mode
- Highway Fuel Economy: 19.5 – 20 km/L with AC on
- Hyundai Elantra Hybrid shows excellent fuel economy. On the highway, it manages about 19.5-20 km/l even with the air conditioner on.
In cities, it does even better, managing 33.1 km/l in EV mode and can stretch up to 40 km on short trips. The total range on a full tank is about 800 km, which is remarkable for a hybrid in this category.
Driving Experience & Handling
The Elantra Hybrid handles well with good road grip, no understeering, and no oversteering. The suspension of the car is soft and smooth and feels comfortable even on bumpy city roads. It provides excellent maneuverability, especially on highways and challenging terrains.
The driving modes are three in number: Eco, Sport, and Smart. The driving modes provide flexibility for different driving conditions. Eco mode is ideal for city driving, while Sport mode is perfect for performance enthusiasts.
The interior is driver-centric with access to controls at arm’s reach. The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster shows all the information that is critical, such as hybrid system status, fuel consumption, and battery charging status.
Connectivity is seamless through wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay at an 8-inch infotainment screen.
Comfort is highlighted, as dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel ensure comfort. But there’s the absence of an armrest for the rear seats.
There are complaints over using plastic on the rear doors. At least, sound insulation at the cabin level is pretty good, though tire noise can get pretty loud, especially those Kumho tires.
