Anti-Smog Squad 2024 Established by Maryam Nawaz
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is coming up with all sorts of aid to public and economic opportunities for the welfare of people. All resources in aid of air pollution are being used within the CM’s Smog Control Programme.
CM Punjab Fights Pollution:
Senior Provincial Minister of Punjab, Marriyum Aurangzeb said this in a speech offered as a special guest at a ceremony organized on Monday at Agriculture House on the occasion of activation of Kisan Card and the launch of Anti-Smog Squad.
She said that special responsibilities have been given to all the concerned departments under the smog control initiative by the CM punjab.

In the initial stage, 5,000 super seeders are distributed to farmers, where a subsidy of 60 percent would be offered for Rs5 billion. These would use the paddy residue. Zero tolerance is given against paddy residue burning.

The minister announced that the agriculture department had an Anti-Smog Squad on the tehsil level, meant to offer technical assistance to farmers in the areas where paddy was cultivated. The CM has also established special helpline no. 1373 for reporting incidents that contribute to smog.

Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani termed the day historic, saying it was going to change the game for small farmers once the Kisan Card is activated. In line with the vision of the CM, now the exploitation by middlemen will be avoided due to the availability of Kisan Cards for farmers.
These interest-free agricultural loans worth Rs150 billion every year will be presented by the card and 80 percent of the loan applicants will avail the opportunity for the very first time.
He said other governments had used only agriculture as an election slogan but we are taking concrete steps for improvement in farmers’ fate, and 250 percent more budget has been provided for agriculture in the 2024-25 budget as compared to last year.
The agriculture department introduced a smog policy under the umbrella of the CM’s Smog Control Programme. The super seeders are being distributed; the Anti-Smog Squad has been activated with special powers. The squad will raise awareness regarding the dangers of burning crop residues and will also take legal action against them.
Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that in Punjab, 6.6 million acres of paddy have been sown and harvesting has already started. Specific task forces have been allotted to the formations for assisting the smog control activities.
Besides this, he announced that 22 anti-smog teams are being established in paddy-grown areas equipped with special vehicles to enhance outreach activities.
Moreover, farmers will be enabled to buy directly the wheat inputs through the use of the Kisan Card, thereby eliminating the middlemen.
