Anti-polio campaign to start in Punjab on Dec 16 aiming to vaccinate over 23.3 million children against polio.

Punjab is to launch a comprehensive anti-polio campaign from December 16.

The drive will go on in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad till December 22, while in 33 other districts it will end on December 20.
The campaign is targeting over 23.3 million children against polio.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique chaired a review meeting to assess the preparations of the initiative.

In the sitting, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that national efforts are needed to banish polio, therefore, all provinces should move together.

He also indicated that inter-provincial interconnection is also of highest importance to completely eradicate the disease-causing virus.

According to him, health secretary has been asked to polish the anti-polio campaigns further and to enhance more micro-plans for increasing coverage up to 100%.

He further said that the presence of polio virus in environmental samples is an alarming sign, and joint efforts must continue to defeat the disease.

Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir also said that international organizations are praising the efforts of Punjab government for the fight against polio.

He said 85,000 mobile teams have been given the responsibility to give polio drops to children in every corner of the province.

The campaign strives to protect every child from polio and work towards eradicating the debilitating disease from society.
