The Muslim majority citizens of the region were strictly opposed to the fact that Maharaja Hari announced Gilgit-Baltistan to be a part of India, which led to a fierce uprising.

Many local heroes, including members of the Gilgit Scouts and young energetic people fought against the Dogra general, Ghasnara Singh, forcing him to surrender.

Brave People of Gilgit

The people of Gilgit, Hunza, and Nagar boldly hoisted the green and white flag of Pakistan to pledge allegiance to the newly formed nation.

Gilgit Scouts and the local people fought bravely and freed about 72,000 square kilometers of land from Dogra occupation.

The collective will of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan resulted in unconditional accession to Pakistan and fulfilled their desire for self-determination.
