This clash comes after India’s dominant 2-0 victory over Bangladesh in September, propelling them to the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.

India’s Burning Quest for WTC Glory

With the 2023 WTC final potentially on the horizon, India will be eager to solidify their position at the top. Captain Rohit Sharma will lead a formidable squad boasting the likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and the in-form wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant.

Jasprit Bumrah: India’s Bowling Spearhead

Jasprit Bumrah, currently ranked No. 1 in the ICC Test bowling rankings after his stellar performance against Bangladesh, will be Rohit Sharma’s deputy throughout the series.

Bumrah’s pace and accuracy will be crucial in restricting the New Zealand batsmen, especially on spin-friendly Indian pitches.

New Zealand Seeks Redemption

New Zealand, the reigning WTC champions from 2021, currently sit in sixth place. This series provides them with an opportunity to climb the rankings and potentially challenge for a spot in the final. Skipper Tom Latham will lead a balanced squad featuring experienced campaigners like Kane Williamson and explosive middle-order batsman Daryl Mitchell.

After a washout on the opening day, the toss finally happened in the first Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru on Thursday, which saw the home team’s captain Rohit Sharma winning it and deciding to bat in overcast conditions.

The decision backfired as India’s top-order disintegrated in no time.
In the 12.4 overs bowled before the first rain stoppage on Thursday, India lost three wickets for just 13 runs as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal battled to 8 not out in 37 balls while watching his partners fall at the other end, including a stunning catch by Devon Conway at extra cover to send Sarfaraz Khan back for a duck.
