ISLAMABAD: A three-day traffic diversion plan has been implemented in Islamabad to welcome the leaders that will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. Heavy traffic is not allowed to enter the capital starting from Oct 14 till Oct 16.

The local residents have been asked to use alternative routes if they do not want to face inconvenience.

  • The travelers who plan to travel from Peshawar to Rawat via GT Road will make use of the Taxila, Motorway, Chakri Interchange, and Chak Beli Road. While the people who will travel from Lahore to Peshawar make use of the routes of Rawat, Chak Beli Road, Chakri Interchange, Motorway, and Taxila.
  • The motorists coming from Margalla Road to Rawalpindi should turn to Ninth Avenue. The traffic coming from Faisal Avenue to Zero Point will be diverted towards Ninth Avenue. People traveling from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi are advised to use Korang Road and the Lehtarar road from Bani Gala.
  • Traffic coming from Rawalpindi to Islamabad via President Murree Road shall take a left turn from Ninth Avenue, while from Zero Point to Faisal Avenue the route shall be closed for all types of traffic proceeding to Korang Chowk. Those coming from Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Road and going to Faizabad shall proceed to Stadium Road via the Ninth Avenue signal.
  • Traffics from Peshawar to Lahore will be diverted via routes Taxila, Motorway and Tarnol Interchange while the heavy traffic coming from GT road Lahore to Islamabad and Rawalpindi must be routed via Chak Beli Road, Chakri Interchange and Motorway.

Police sources added that air surveillance will continue during the three-day arrival of the delegations while the mobile services are likely to be suspended in areas.

Pindi’s traffic strategy: Capital finalised traffic strategy plan for SCO summit

  • Rawalpindi City Traffic Police has announced a special traffic plan as preparations are underway for the SCO moot. According to the plan 622 traffic officers and personnel will be deployed, which includes 13 DSPs, 73 senior traffic wardens, and 536 traffic wardens and assistants.
  • Chief Traffic Officer Benish Fatima has directed the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police to implement this plan for three days from 14th to 16th October 2024. A spokesperson said during these three days entry of heavy traffic will be completely banned into Rawalpindi.
