95% Medicine in Pakistan is Locally Produced: PPMA Chairman
A delegation of PPMA, headed by its Chairman, called on Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan to apprise him about the problems being confronted by the sector and soliciting government-to-government support for increasing pharmaceutical exports.

The Chairman informed that 95 percent of Pakistan’s pharmaceutical production was local while only 5 percent was imported, which meant a huge exportable surplus was available.

He said that pharmaceutical exports of Pakistan stand at $ 341 million and would reach into multiple billions of dollars if the government supported this sector.
He called for setting up a Pharma Export Promotion Council as a central organization for the development of this innovation-driven sector, drawing upon successful examples of neighboring countries to streamline and enhance the industry’s performance.
Jam Kamal Khan then pointed out immense pharmaceutical exports potential for the vast markets across South-West Asia and Central Asia and requested PPMA to submit a comprehensive proposal for export enhancement, for which full support would be extended through the Ministry of Commerce via Export Development Fund.
