US Issues New Sanctions to Limit Russian Influence in Balkans.
On Thursday, the United States implemented a fresh round of sanctions targeting 10 individuals as part of efforts to curb Russian influence in the Western Balkans, as announced by the U.S. Treasury.

The sanctions also extend to 20 entities, including 11 based in Russia, aligning with executive orders pertaining to the Western Balkans and Russia.
Among the sanctioned entities are three Liberia-registered oil tankers, along with others based in North Macedonia and the United Arab Emirates.
These measures represent the latest in a series of U.S. sanctions imposed on individuals and organizations, including politicians, to counter Russian endeavors aimed at impeding the region’s integration into international institutions.
The sanctions involve the freezing of all assets and properties held by the targeted individuals in the United States or under the control of U.S. citizens.
Additionally, they generally prohibit Americans from engaging in business transactions with the sanctioned entities.

The individuals facing sanctions hail from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. Notably, Savo Cvijetinovic, a senior official of the political party led by Milorad Dodik, the pro-Russia leader of Republika Srpska (RS), is among those targeted.
Dodik, who is already under U.S. sanctions for alleged corruption and promoting the secession of the Serb-dominated half of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has faced increased scrutiny.
Cvijetinovic, the RS representative of a company owned by a former Russian Air Force deputy chief, is implicated in the “illegal transfer” of Ukrainian-made helicopter engines to Russia. Another individual, Petar Djokic, Dodik’s minister of industry, energy, and mining, is under scrutiny for signing an agreement with a Croatian counterpart to construct a pipeline from Croatia to a Russia-owned refinery in RS.

Furthermore, Dusko Perovic, Dodik’s representative in Moscow, faced sanctions for lobbying efforts to arrange meetings between Dodik and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Perovic served as an intermediary between the RS government and an unidentified Russian billionaire, working for two of the billionaire’s firms, according to the Treasury statement.
In response to the sanctions in 2022, Dodik asserted that the United States was accusing him of corruption without any accompanying criminal proceedings. US Issues New Sanctions to Limit Russian Influence in Balkans, this move is going to unfold in near future.
