India Files Appeal Against Death Sentence to 8 Indians in Qatar.
On Thursday – Nov 9, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that an appeal has been lodged against the death sentences handed down to eight Indian nationals in Qatar.

The MEA on Thursday said, “The judgment is confidential. There is a court of first instance that gave the judgment which was shared with our legal team. Considering all legal options, an appeal has been filed. We are in touch with the Qatari authorities.”
“We got another round of consular access with the eight Indians on November 7. We are in touch with the family members,” the MEA said.
“We will continue to extend all legal and consular support and we urge everyone not to engage in speculation considering the sensitive nature of the case,” the ministry added.

These eight individuals, all former Indian Navy officers, had been detained in August 2022 on suspicion of espionage for Israel while they were working for a company in Qatar.
Qatar’s intelligence agency arrested them in Doha on August 30, 2022.

Despite several attempts to secure bail, the Qatari authorities repeatedly denied their requests.
In October, the Court of First Instance of Qatar issued the death penalty for these Navy veterans.
