PIA Reduces International Fares upto Rs 350000
PIA Reduces International Fares
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has cut international fares sharply after the federal excise duty (FED) was waived off by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
As quoted by state-run news sources, travelers on their way to the United States would benefit with possible savings of Rs350,000 on air ticket fares. For Africa and the Middle East, air tickets would have a possibility of dropping up to Rs105,000. European destinations as well as those to Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East would drop up to Rs210,000.
However, the FED waiver only pertains to international travel. The tax will still apply to domestic travel, officials at PIA confirmed.
The waiver comes after the 2024 federal budget had imposed an additional Rs56 billion in FED on air travel, which would bring relief to international passengers.
On the other hand, the IMF has also exempted the airline industry from 18 per cent sales tax on the purchase or lease of new aircraft.
PIA TO RESUME DIRECT FLIGHTS TO PARIS FROM JANUARY
PIA will resume direct flights to Paris starting January 10, 2025, following the lifting of a long-standing ban by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
A press release stated, “Direct flights between Pakistan and France will simplify travel and foster business, tourism, family connections, and cultural exchanges.”
The PIA flight operations in the EU were put on hold in June 2020 following reservations raised over Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority regarding oversight capabilities and compliance with international aviation standards.
Following a tragic plane crash resulting in 97 deaths and raising questions about the validity of pilots’ licences in Pakistan, the suspension came into effect.
This led to the EASA and UK aviation authorities revoking PIA’s authorization to operate in their regions.
With the ban now lifted, PIA aims to reestablish its presence in the European market while ensuring adherence to global safety and operational standards.
