Islamabad Launches Electric Bus Trial Service
In a significant step towards sustainable urban transportation, Islamabad has commenced the trial service of electric buses.
This marks a notable milestone in the city’s efforts to reduce pollution and provide modern travel facilities.

Trial Service Details
- Start Date: The trial service began on Monday.
- Route: Feeder route number four, connecting PIMS Hospital to Quaid-e-Azam University.
- Frequency: Buses run every 10 minutes.
- Stops: Include PIMS Hospital, Radio Colony, Satara Market, Melody, Aabpara, NADRA Chowk, Serena Hotel, and Quaid-e-Azam University.
- Trial Phase: Passengers are not allowed during the trial phase. The official service begins on July 1, 2024.
Future Service
- Free Initial Service: The service will be free for the public initially, with a fare of Rs.50 introduced later.
- Additional Route: Another feeder route serving the university area, passing through Karachi Company, G-10, and G-11 Markezs, reaching NUST University.
Public Reception
The initiative has been warmly received, especially by senior citizens, students, and women, who will benefit from the eco-friendly transportation option.
Existing Services
Islamabad currently has Green Line and Blue Line bus services organized by the Capital Development Authority (CDA):
- Green Line: Operates from PIMS Hospital.
- Blue Line: Extends from PIMS to Gulberg.
Expansion Plans
- Feeder Routes: 14 approved feeder routes, with four operational and 10 to be activated in phases.
- Bus Procurement: 30 buses already delivered out of a consignment of 160 from China.
